During the year 2010 I have often pulled from my grocery stockpile that I worked to build the year before.  At this point the stash is getting low so one of my goals for this year is to rebuild it!

I could go out & drop lots of money to build it quickly, but I don’t want to do that. I’d rather take my time building it slowly based on sale items each week.  That way I can build a great reserve while spending little money and with little impact to my weekly bottom line.  I plan to document it all here on my blog so you guys can follow along & join me if you’d like.  Each Friday I will post a list of the items I’ll add to my stockpile each week along with the stores & coupons to use.

Ready to get started?  Let’s go!

3 Must do’s for building a Grocery Stockpile!

  • You’ll Need Coupons – Many of you already have this down, but just in case you don’t you’ll need several copies of the Sunday Paper Each week.  I get 10.  That way I’ll have the coupons I need to purchase a large quantity of something if it’s super cheap or free with coupons.
  • Get those coupons organized – I use a file box with hanging folders for mine.  I don’t clip the coupons each week, but organize them in my file box by insert date.  Keep an eye out for a post on just that topic later.  This is crucial for making this a stress-free activity.
  • Plan Your Space – I have a fairly large pantry with shelf space to put my groceries.  You’ll also need a place for health & beauty items like Toothbrushes, soap, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, etc.  Also, don’t forget to scope out where you’ll keep your cleaning products and freezer items(the freezer, maybe?)

Disclaimer: Just thought I’d point out that I’m not talking hoarding here.  I just plan to stock up on things that my family will actually use at a reasonable amount:)
