Spring is in the air, and it’s time for picnics and more fun outdoors.  It’s always great to have a fun and creative snack for the kiddos.  They will even love helping with these.  My  guys love chocolate covered granola bars, especially the chocolate chip kind.   Two of my boys have peanut allergies so actually can’t have the Quaker ones, but we can use Enjoy Life bars or Aldi’s Live G-Free brand for them.  See How to do it below.

Ants on a Log Granola Bars
Recipe Type: snack
Author: Holly
– Quaker Chewy Dips Granola Bars (I used chocolate chip) – M&M’s Candies – Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses (Really you can use any plain chocolate you have on hand) – Ziplock Sandwich Bag – Sharp Knife
Ingredients
  • – Quaker Chewy Dips Granola Bars (I used chocolate chip)
  • – M&M’s Candies (Use Skittles as an alternative if desired)
  • – Hershey’s Chocolate Kisses (Really you can use any plain chocolate you have on hand)
  • – Ziplock Sandwich Bag
  • – Sharp Knife
Instructions
  1. – Unwrap two chocolate kisses and place them in a small microwave safe bowl (If making allergy free you can use Enjoy Life Chocolate Chips to melt)
  2. – Microwave on high for 30 seconds or until just melted enough to be stirred with the tip of a knife.
  3. – Turn a sandwich bag inside out over your hand and scoop up the chocolate.
  4. – Turn the bag right side in and press the chocolate mixture into one corner of the bag.
  5. – With a sharp knife, just barely cut the corner of the sandwich bag off so that you have a teeny tiny hole from which you can pipe the chocolate. The smaller the better.
  6. – Unwrap a granola bar.
  7. – Pipe two small dabs of chocolate onto the top of the bar and affix two M&M’s candies onto it.
  8. – The melted chocolate will act like a glue to hold the body of your ants onto the log.
  9. – Repeat this process to form the body of your second ant.
  10. – Pipe two eyes onto your ants.
  11. – Pipe three legs on each side of your ants radiating out from the center of the body where the two M&M’s candies meet.
  12. – Repeat!
