Slow Cooker Plum Butter

Once you have added everything to the slow cooker, you can it to cook for duration of the day– or even overnight– and only have to remember to stir every couple hours. It is also important to remember that unlike other fruit butters, you do not need to add a lot of sugar because plums, especially late season plums, are full of sugar.

  • 3-4 pounds ripe plums
  • ½ – 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Pit and quarter your plums, leave the skins attached. Toss them into your slow cooker and set it to medium heat.

Add the water, ½ cup sugar and vanilla to the plums and stir it all together. Place the lid on the slow cooker and keep it on except for when you stop to stir it. The butter only needs to be stirred every couple of hours, making sure to scrape the sides so that nothing sticks or hardens.

As it cooks, the plums will begin to break down. Keep it cooking for six hours and then perform a taste test. If you want your plum butter to be a little sweeter, add the remaining sugar, but if the plums are sweet enough, you don’t need to add any more.

Easy Plum Butter

Your plum butter should cook for a total of eight hours to reach the right consistency. Leave the lid on, but set the lid so that it is raised a bit and some of the moisture can evaporate off.

Crock Pot Plum Butter

Allow plum butter to cool entirely before serving or jarring. Plum butter can last for up to two to three weeks in the fridge.
